About

In 1982, Julie Claire Holmes received her doctorate from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, a nationally accredited, four-year postgraduate school. Dr. Holmes is a leading women’s health advocate.

…your partner in the quest for vibrant well-being As a naturopathic physician, I begin with the body’s natural ability to heal. My job is to find
and treat the cause of an ailment, not merely
to eliminate its symptoms.

I’m about choices. Perhaps the most important gift I can give you is the knowledge I’ve gained through training, experience and ongoing study. When you know what’s available to you, you can make the right decisions for yourself.
Respecting you as an individual means listening to you.

My goal is to empower you, to help you take responsibility for your own health and well-being.

Naturopathy provides real hope for those who want to achieve balance and make safe and healthy choices.

Hormonal Balance

If you are a woman, you know that hormonal changes can affect your mood, your sleep, your general sense of well-being. Yet perhaps you are confused or concerned about the risks and benefits of various therapies.

As a woman, Dr. Holmes understands. As a doctor, she is recognized for her work in helping women to achieve optimum hormonal balance in the years before, during, and after menopause. As a naturopath, she offers a variety of treatment options—and gives you the information you need to make educated decisions about what’s right for you.

Among these choices are bioidentical hormones. An expert in this therapy, Dr. Holmes has prescribed them, as appropriate, for more than a decade.

Finally, Dr. Holmes emphasizes a wholistic approach that takes into account not just the female hormones, but the body’s other intricate and interrelated systems, including adrenal, thyroid, and blood-sugar regulation.

Helping the body defend against environmental toxins

An intricate balance also exists between the body and the world around it. Dr. Holmes has increasingly explored the relationship between life style, toxins, and chronic illnesses such as fibromyalgia, migraines, fatigue, and intestinal problems.

Whether the toxins are internal (parasites, candida, toxic metal accumulation), environmental (exposure to pesticides or other chemicals), or behavioral (cigarette smoking, poor nutrition), they can create major stress and imbalance in the body.

Incorporating natural methods of detoxification, and recommending practical life-style changes, Dr. Holmes can help men and women alike to improve their well-being.

Thermography for earlier, safer breast-cancer detection

In 2002, Dr. Holmes took an important step toward early breast-cancer detection and prevention as the first physician on Maui to offer painless, non-invasive Thermal Breast Imaging (breast thermography). Instead of potentially harmful X-rays, this diagnostic tool uses a highly sensitive infrared camera to photograph heat patterns in the vascular system of the breast before and after the patient immerses her hands in cold water.

The images produced through breast thermography may identify cancerous and even precancerous changes in the breast—sometimes up to a decade before they are detectable through mammography.

The implications are enormous, for the earlier breast cancer is detected, the more successfully it can be treated. Identified early enough, precancerous conditions can often be prevented from developing into serious breast disease.
